Cool days, warm colors

April is the month to channel Mother Earth. You can celebrate Earth Day in style by putting a modern twist on clean and neutral hues of brown, beige, grey and green. On cooler days I like to layer – maybe a chunky knit over a tank – and on warm nights I experiment with different fabrics like jersey, charmeuse or bamboo in these shades. Incorporate some delicate blues or oranges and your outfit will be out of this world.

For accessories, turn to pieces made of natural materials like wood and shells – even fresh or faux flowers. Big wood bangles go with nearly everything as does a classic watch with a brown leather strap.  It’s easy being good to Mother Earth when it comes to watches: avoid a battery altogether by opting for an automatic movement, where the watch winds itself by harnessing the natural motion of your arm.

Step Into Spring (in heels, of course)

It’s time to step into spring with soaring style. Sky-high heels will launch your look into the stratosphere. (If balance is an issue, platforms will offer you peace of mind while still keeping you stylishly in step.) Think sexy pumps that are strappy, bright and textured – maybe even decorated with sweet bows, buckles or cutouts. You’ll be singing in tune with the fashion birdies in no time.

Heels look great with a knee-length skirt, whether a print or a solid color. Lace and floral are spot-on for spring and tweed remains a staple transition fabric between seasons. A fluid blouse completes this entire ensemble when paired with a watch that complements your shoes, like an embellished crystal piece. And here’s a trick: Use a wide belt where the tucked blouse and skirt edge meet at the slimmest part of your waist, thus drawing the eye to a trimly defined mid-section. Belts are a must this season so use them to your full advantage. After all, we’re all tightening our belts this season…might as well do it in style.
