Some people have already switched out summer closets for fall; others are still layering summer frocks on cooler nights. Fall is upon us and it is time – if not yet physically, then mentally – to flip a big fashion switch.
Autumn ushers in a range of rich colors and dark neutrals. Transition into the season and strike a happy medium with the “new” neutral color: gray. The hue, while classic, makes a fresh impression in gray top-handle bags, light gray cardigans and charcoal pleated pants. All pieces complement the jewel tones popular for the season.
It’s no surprise that black is also back, but dress it up with color for a modern approach. Since the rule of no white after Labor Day has long been null, take a classic vestige of summer – the white bag – and pair it alongside black patent pumps. Try a red silk scarf with a sleek little black dress. Mix black with silver in any jewelry combination – like a chunky necklace and bracelet watch.

One glance at the back-to-school clothing racks and I’m transported back to my first day of school. Picking the perfect ensemble for that special day thrilled me, and I’m just as excited to help dress my daughter for her first day of school. With fall on the horizon, it’s time to wind down summer and get excited for a new fashion landscape.
Sharpen your writing utensils and your attire, with silhouette-slimming pencil skirts. They’re smart looking and tailored, perfect for the college classroom or the workplace – even better, they flatter a wide-variety of figures. Look for a narrow cut that doesn’t pull at the hip and a hem that touches the knee.
To counterbalance the tailored lower half, try a soft and bell-sleeved blouse. Fabric that is loose and breezy offers comfort and breathability for those days when summer won’t let go. Complete the look in two different ways: with a feminine and dressy bracelet watch to match the blouse, or a menswear inspired leather strap watch to complement the whole outfit.
